Support SB25-276: Protect Civil Rights for Immigrants
Senate Bill 276 is a new bill being considered by the Colorado State Legislature. SB25-276 is the result of months of work involving legislators, immigrant advocacy groups, and Colorado families. By strengthening several key protections for immigrants and closing some privacy loopholes, it aims to make our communities safer and ensure that Constitutional rights are honored throughout Colorado.
This bill:
-
Fortifies important constitutional protections for immigrants at locations like hospitals, schools, and childcare centers. Under SB-276, ICE would not be allowed at public schools and health care facilities unless those locations are open to the public
-
Increases transparency around school policies to strengthen community trust
-
Supports immigrants’ ability to participate in civic life, including accessing healthcare, education, and childcare, and fulfilling court requirements
-
Protects personal data for all Coloradans, regardless of immigration status, so that we can enroll in public schools or get a driver's license without fear that immigration authorities could access our names and addresses.
At a time when the federal government is threatening and bullying immigrants, Colorado should stand up to say that everyone should be able to live here without fear.
