1. COMMUNITY DEFENDERS

Community Defenders is a participatory defense model using volunteer attorneys from the Fort Collins and Greeley areas and community members and families to defend people placed in removal proceedings. The attorneys will be trained in bond hearings and basic immigration deportation defense and will agree to take at least one pro bono removal case or bond request case of people living in Weld and Larimer counties. The attorneys will be supervised and mentored and have access to interpreters and support services. Community members and families will participate in defense by strategizing on defense, shoing up at hearings, public awareness and other activities.

2. COMMUNITY RESISTANCE

Community resistance involves supporting people who cannot protest or engage in other means of resistance because of their immigration status identify and engage in resistance strategies that do not involve risk to the participants, for example Know Your Rights trainings and materials, boycotts and public education.

3. CHANGING THE NARRATIVE

PODER will publicize the impact that the administration’s persecution of immigrants is having on families and communities and share stories proving that immigrants are valued members of our communities.
